Tutorial : Create theme for Folderico 4

1. Icon Creation

We recommend Axilalis IconWorkshop or AWicons for creating icons of your theme.

  • Endeavour to use simple and integral shapes: circle, square, star, heart etc.
  • Clear lines and much contrast, especially for small sizes. We advice to draw each size separately. Do not forget about alpha-blending and realistic shadows.
  • Make use of different colours for notional tagging and accenting the purpose of each icon.
  • If you decided to take ready-made icons, created by other designer, you can use such theme for personal use only. If you are going to open the theme to general use, you must obtain author’s permission.

Do not forget! Usage of any intellectual property (even, at first sight, ordinary icons) with any violation of terms of use is not acceptable!

After your creating all the ico-files, one may begin to assemble the theme.

2. Create ICL-file from icons.

Download and install freeware tool IcoFx (freeware tool).

Run IcoFX and go to 'Tools > Resource Editor..'.

The utility will create an empty icon-library.

To add the appropriate icons in the library are, press the button "white file with a orange star in it":

Browse to the folder containing the icons you want to use.

Select as many as you need and click OK:

Now they appear in your resource file:

Do not forget to click the 'save' icon.

Now you can browse to the location where you want to save the file:

Result:

Save icl-file as "Your theme name.icl"

That's all. We have created a ICL-file.

3.Create license-file

Create empty text-file "Your theme name.txt" and put in the same folder as "Your theme name.icl".

The "Your theme name.txt" contains license information of icon-theme

Example of "Your theme name.txt" contents:

All right to this icons is copyrighted to Microsoft Corp.

microsoft.com

4.Create file with names of icons

Create empty text-file "Your theme name.ini" and put in the same folder as "Your theme name.icl".

The "Your theme name.ini" contains icon-names of yor theme.

Example of "Your theme name.ini" contents:

[names]

1=Closed folder

2=Open Folder

3=My Documents

4=My Pictures

5=My Music

6=My Video

7=Favorites

8=Fonts

9=Programms

10=Web Folder

... and so on

As the Folderico program is available in multiple languages, it is preferably to fill all the parameters in English.

5. Place created files in Themes folder

Now put your "Your theme name.icl", "Your theme name.txt" and "Your theme name.ini" to folder: {system disk}:\ProgramData\Folderico\Themes\

6. Create SFT-file

Starting with version 4, Folderico uses a new sft-format so that is convenient to distribute.

The "install.ini" contains information about the author, theme name and file-names to copy. Create empty text file in Notepad and add the following parameters:

[AUTHOR]

NAME= name of the author or the organisation

ThemeName= give a name to your theme

files = specify a semicolon which files contain your theme

As the Folderico program is available in multiple languages, it is preferably to fill all the parameters in English.

Example of "install.ini" contents:

[author]

name=Your name

ThemeName=Name of Theme

files=Your theme name.icl;Your theme name.ini;Your theme name.txt;

To package your theme in a handy sft-file do as follows:

Create a zip-archive ("Your theme name.icl", "Your theme name.ini", "Your theme name.txt" and "install.ini" ) using common settings (Compression Level - Normal) and without passwords. No folders inside allowed.

Change extension to sft.

If you already have created theme, you can submit it on special page.
