Re: Reinstalling XP,Badge data

Sorry for later answer.
But as you may see, in last two days our server was down

Firstly, if you was have checked option: "Common library and settings for all users of this computer" ( see picture below)

then your badges are stored in folder of Shedko Badges in file "base.ini" or in file "USER_NAME.ini" ( in some version some filename are used )

But if this option is uncheked, then your badges are stored under D:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Application Data\Shedko Badges\

But you also may backup all installed themes and languages by copyng all contents of Shedko Badges folder and after installing simply replace all files, but if explorer do not allow to replace some *.dll files - is a OK.

Ok, thanks Shedko. It's nice to know you're still improving Badges.

I'll try this new beta immediately.

Ok, back a few days later. Badges seems to be playing nicely with other applications.

Now I have new bugs. Explorer is often crashed when using the context menu, the badges column displays nothing in explorer, and using the option to put a tab in the properties dialog does nothing.

I'm also using an XP SP3 RC (build 3300), so that may have a lot to do with it.

Also to prevent this problem, you may use new beta version Shedko Badges 1.5.5.5

Please try new beta version: Shedko Badges 1.5.5.5

In this beta disabled property page, that usually produce this error.

Ok, we are test Badges ( 1.5.5) with Firefox under Windows vista and this bug in some cases are exists.

On our PC we are find solution to make Badges + Firefox work together, but this fix in the badges_shell.dll

Firefox in this case do not work correctly with PropertySheetHandler, if we are disable this extension than this bug are not occured.

In few days we are more complex tests current beta-version with this fix and then release new version of Shedko Badges.

Also you may try "manually" disable Badges -PropertySheet, for it please use attached file "Shedko_Badges_Disable_PropertySheet.reg"

Reg file contents:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Directory\ShellEx\PropertySheetHandlers\EasyNSE Handler [{05DA97CF-B697-40AE-8E64-005B4956CB16}]]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shellex\PropertySheetHandlers\EasyNSE Handler [{05DA97CF-B697-40AE-8E64-005B4956CB16}]]

But this solution may work not on all pc. Because FF also do not "like" if in one dll we are include 2 different interfaces. In this situation is a shell_badges.dll, because in this dll are built Property Sheet and Overlay icons.

This bug may occured not only with Badges + FF, as you can read on this russian forum. Yes some times Badges may enable this bug, but in most cases is not.
Also not only Badges may cause this bug in FF - some peoples was write, thats do not have any our software, but bug exists in Firefox

And on this topic exist solution for this bug:
If you was have installed IETab, than open one IE-tab and now in ALL tabs text will be normal
IETab : https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/addon/1419

P.S.
If you speek russian, please use russian forum - http://softq.org/forum ( russian language is more pleasant for me, and my english is not good )

yeah, i guess you're right, I didn't think about that.

just one more idea - maybe add an option to display a badge for empty folders.
so that if the folder is empty, there will be an "empty" badge displayed on it. unless there is a badge associated with the folder already.
I would definitely use it. Naturally, this should be completely optional since some users might not like this feature.
not sure if this idea fits the program though.

anyway, thanks for the attention and looking forward to the next version

At my opinion, this is not good way, because many users may do not understand "where is my shortcut icon".

But for version 2.X we are planed feature:
15-20 categories of badges, and user may enable/disable any requied categories.
And you may try to enable more than 10 badges.

oh well... 10 is OK too.

I was wondering, since we're already messing with the overlay icons, maybe is there a possibility to add the system overlay icons into Shedko Badges too. so that we can put them to custom locations ourselves and change their look by creating our own replacements for them. (Shedko badges themes that have also replacements for system overlay icons.)
Would it be possible to do that? It would be cool.

Quote:
EDIT - i found out that microsoft doesn't allow more than 15 overlay icons. it would be nice though, when you could use more than 10 badges. any way to bypass this restriction?
Sorry, there are not exists known to me methods to bypass this restriction.

Quote:

And perhaps a theme could include custom badge names that match with the icons in it. so the user doesn't have to change the names from the language file... (although this could make things a bit hard for other languages when the custom badge names in a theme are in english only)

Current way to customize names of badges is a only temporary solution, because we are do not planed this feature, while release current version, but yes this is a good idea. Must be in next version.
